This past Monday was a great way to start the week. On the 1700 block of Norris Strret in Whitman Park Neighborhood a young family lead by Dennis and Janisa Perry got the key to their first house. City officials including Mayor Moran, New Life CDC and onlookers were there to congratulate them and discuss the importance of home ownwership.

New Life CDC has partnered with the City of Camden to rehab vacant homes in hope of giving more opportunities to residents to become homeowners. This program is called the "First Time Homebuyers Program," the City provides grants for both funding and to offset the buyer's down payment. A home owner that the CDC also helped spoke about the importance of working hard to call something yours. The new family that received their keys at the event spoke about the long journey they had taken to get there and that hard work is key; an underlying them for all residents.

After the event, attendees had a chance to view the house. The house was a freshly renovated 3 beroom house, with a beautiful back yard, kitchen and bathroom with a sun roof. Attendes weren't the only ones seeing the house for the first time, one of the children of the family ran throughout the house to see her room and get a feel for her new space. The parents looked out their bedroom windows to take in their new scenery and look out on the city officials down below. It truly was an amazing morning!
