Westfield avenue is finally getting the make-over it deserves! Today Mayor Frank Moran of Camden City invited everyone to a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the streetscape project. Not only was a section of the street blocked off, but residents and business owners came out to listen to what the mayor had to say. Business owners shook their head in agreeance as the mayor called for residents, business owners and the city to come together to keep the streets clean.

Mayor Moran mentioned what other improvements happened in the area "...in the last twenty years the improvements that we worked on with the New Catto School, the new park which is a stop and station park, the improvemnts to Baldwin Run and now finally doing some streetscaping.." The areas surrounding Westfield has come a long way and although it still has some way to go, this is only the beginning.

The consturction will enhance the corridor from 34th to 38th street. The reconstruction of the sidewalks, curbs, street lighting and crosswalks will be funded through the City's Comunity Development Block grant while the roadway will be resurfaced by the New Jersey Transportation Infrastructure Bank.

Councilwoman Marilyn Torres disscussed prevailing with limited resources and said "yes, it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to build an empire and our children are the future of this empire."

City council members along with the mayor walked the streets after the ceremony to explore some of the businesses. As Camden moves into a new stage of redevelopment, everyone deserves a piece of the success. It is up to us to work together and make sure opportunities and development is reaching every resident in all parts of the city.
