Access to peer support means hope for the future

Anita suffered a sports injury in the fall of her junior year of high school. She was treated with pain medication but in just a short period of time, her happy go lucky outlook and her determination on the athletic field changed dramatically. As she struggled with addiction, she withdrew from family and friends. Her dreams of attending college diminished as her addiction grew more serious. The year Anita turned 19, her family became aware of her addiction to heroin. Her parents and sister, Jenna, were distraught when they received the call from the hospital - Anita had overdosed.

Because of your support, Anita and her family were connected to Center For Family Services while at the hospital directly after the overdose. While the days ahead were difficult ones, the family received care when it was needed most. Now, counseling and support services that focus on peer mentoring, building self-esteem, and developing healthy relationships continue to help Anita get back to the person she once was. Your gift offers the opportunity for people like Anita to receive treatment and start living a life free from drugs and alcohol.

Witnessing and experiencing domestic violence as a child led to depression for Deana. As an adult, Deana was prescribed medication to manage her depression, but this quickly escalated to addiction. She also found herself in one abusive relationship after another. When her children, John and Kara, began to witness the violence, she knew she has to make a change. Deana found Center For Family Services through the recommendation of a friend. Thanks to your investment, Deana and her children were able to relocate to safe housing to escape the violence.

Counseling helped her address both her addiction and the depression she experienced as a result of her abuse. Her children also received specialized support to heal from the violence they had witnessed. Today, Deana channels her gratitude into helping others. She is a recovery coach with Center For Family Services where she used the power of her story to help others choose the path of recovery that is right for them. With your continued support, other people like Deana who are struggling with drugs, alcohol, and the effects of abuse will receive the treatment they need to become whole again.

Your investment will not only provide safe housing for individuals like Deana, it will also open the door to educational and employment opportunities, provide specialized counseling for families and children, and offer workshops and networking opportunities focused on recovery. And just like Anita, your gift will make it possible for many others to be connected to a recovery coach who will guide and encourage them on their journey of healing and sobriety.

While there are many paths to recovery, there is one constant – and that’s hope. Your gift will lay the foundation for hope by making life-changing recovery services available to families in our community.
