Homelessness and housing instability are about far more than “not having a roof.” They are often rooted in trauma, mental health challenges, family disruption, or domestic violence. For young people, these challenges can disrupt every aspect of development—from school performance and attendance, relationships to emotional stability and long-term health. That’s why supportive housing is so essential. It offers not only a safe place to live, but also the structure, care, and community that help people heal and rebuild their lives to ultimately reach their full potential.

At Center For Family Services, supportive housing programs are designed to meet youth exactly where they are—providing safe housing alongside counseling, education, and life skills that promote independence and stability. Last year, Center For Family Services was home to more than 400 people.

Supportive housing is more than shelter is a bridge toward dignity, resilience, hope and possibility.  Within these homes, individuals are met with compassion and opportunity, finding the courage to dream again.

Emergency Shelters

For children and teens in immediate need of safety, Center For Family Services operates 24-hour, seven-day-a-week emergency shelters. These programs provide more than a bed, they offer counseling, education resources, and life skills training in an environment that encourages growth and self-expression. Youth are supported as they make plans for a safe transition, whether back home, to shelter care, or into a group home.

Structured Transitional Living

For older teens and young adults (ages 16–20), structured transitional living programs focus on independence. These homes foster a sense of responsibility and belonging, helping youth support one another as they prepare for adulthood.

Group Homes and Residential Care

Group homes and long-term residential programs provide a healing, structured environment for youth who need more time to stabilize. Residents receive therapy, education support, and daily living skills training while developing a long-term plan for success.

The goal is always the same—to ensure each young person has the tools and confidence to move toward a permanent, stable living situation.

Permanent Supportive Housing
Supportive Apartments for young adults providing independent living skills support for a successful transition to permanent housing. In these structured, supportive apartments, residents receive guidance on setting goals, pursuing education or employment, and managing finances. Living independently while still connected to professional and peer support gives participants the confidence to make responsible choices and plan for a sustainable future.

Shelter Homes

In partnership with caring adults in the community, the foster home programs provides youth with comfort, guidance, and hope in short term foster homes. These homes offer the warmth of family life while maintaining access to professional support from Center For Family Services staff. For many children and teens, this model helps rebuild trust and stability after experiencing trauma or displacement.
