Commercial businesses, eateries, retail shops and more.

If Camden is right, the ongoing $4.4 million transformation of Haddon Avenue that serves as the "gateway" to the city could bring much more than just bicycle and foot traffic.

"Why not an outlet store," Camden County Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo asked Thursday at a press conference to announce progress thus far during the major overhaul between Vesper Boulevard and Old White Horse Pike.

The expansion of one of the oldest roadways in the county — which is being boosted by $1.1 million in federal funds — doesn't stop at decorative lighting, bike lanes and a conveniently located PATCO stop for that "neighborhood" feel, Angulo said.

Uncommon Schools Camden Prep, a Renaissance school that first opened up shop in Camden in 2014, has purchased a half-dozen vacant buildings along Haddon Avenue that will be transformed into an 800-student facility for grades kindergarten through 8th grade.
