CAMDEN, NJ- Center For Family Services (CFS) has been selected to receive a $2,000 donation from Susquehanna Bank to support Qrew’s Nest; an initiative part of CFS’ teen volunteer program, Quixote Quest.

The funding from Susquehanna Bank will support Qrew’s Nest activities, including materials and supplies such as books, games, and arts and crafts; healthy snacks and refreshments; and incentives used to encourage and reward the children for hard work.

Qrew’s Nest is a community of twenty teens who come together on Saturday afternoon’s during the school year with twenty 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from the Cooper Plaza and Lanning Square neighborhoods. For an hour each week, the children are encouraged to love reading and experience fun through math games. The effort to strengthen the child’s academics is enhanced by the fact that the teen mentors (the Big’s) form a special relationship with one child (the Little’s)in the second hour of the program through special mentoring moments and reinforcing incentives.

The meeting place for the Big’s and Little’s is CFS’ Promise Neighborhood Family Success Center, a community-based, family-centered gathering place nestled in the middle of the Copper Plaza and Lanning Square neighborhoods. The Promise Neighborhood Family Success Center is part of the pipeline of services offered through the Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood (CCLPN) initiative. CCLPN aims to create a comprehensive pipeline of services and a cradle to college to career path leading to positive change for children and families. CFS was recently awarded funding by the Department of Education for a 2012 Promise Neighborhood Planning Grant which will assist in creating a neighborhood of opportunity in Cooper Plaza and Lanning Square where children can grow, thrive, and succeed.
