Determined to Succeed

I’m learning a lot here. I’m happy to be achieving my goals of earning my high school diploma and getting job training.

Originally enrolled in a GED program at Camden County College (CCC), Yaneli, 24 years old, received news that a new initiative was taking place in Camden City. After gaining more information on Camden Corps Plus, a program spearheaded by Center For Family Services and Rutgers University - Camden, Yaneli saw a great opportunity for advancement.

Aspiring to better herself in a multitude of areas, Yaneli has found Camden Corps Plus to be an eye-opening experience. “I’m realizing that I can do more and more every day, being a mother, going to school, and going to work. It’s hard balancing everything, but I’m doing it!”

“I’m learning a lot here. I’m happy to be achieving my goals of earning my high school diploma and getting job training.” Providing occupational training in one of six areas, Camden Corps Plus connects Camden City youth with resources needed to attain successful careers in some of the most in-demand job sectors. Yaneli, intrigued by the medical field and the vast amount of roles it has to offer, aims to be a Certified Nursing Assistance. “Along with liking the medical field, I just really enjoy being around others and helping them.”

In addition to enrolling in college classes and forging a career path, Yaneli says her involvement with the program has allowed her to overcome a significant barrier. A native of the Dominican Republic, Yaneli sees the English language as a challenge, but is determined to one day reach full professional proficiency. Thanks to the support of Camden Corps Plus and its welcoming environment, Yaneli is making great strides. “My biggest struggle in life was my language skills. But talking with my teachers and other members every day has helped me a lot.”

Meeting challenges head-on and feeling a positive impact from the program’s various components, Yaneli is now more confident than ever with high hopes for the future. “Never give up. Even when life gets hard, keep going and just try your best.”
