CAMDEN-Employees from Seneca Insurance in Mount Laurel spent their annual company volunteer day preparing summer learning packets for students enrolled at Center For Family Services (CFS) Head Start in Camden City.
Twice a year Seneca Insurance encourages its employees to participate in the company volunteer day giving staff members the opportunity to give back to the community. In addition to volunteering their time, Seneca donated $2,500 to CFS which will be used to fund summer learning packs that will be distributed to each student enrolled at Head Start on the last day of school.
Center For Family Services’ Head Start is a nurturing early childhood education program for children ages three to five in Camden City and Camden County, New Jersey. The program provides stimulating activities and learning experiences that prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond.
Head Start provides comprehensive early education and support services in the areas of health and dental care, nutrition, special education, parent skill workshops, mental health, and social services. Children are provided with a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack each day.
The packs will be used to continue learning throughout the summer in an effort to prevent summer learning loss. On average, students lose 2.6 months of grade-level knowledge over the summer; however low-income children and youth experience even greater learning loss. Each summer learning pack will include an activity book including over 50 different activities created by Head Start teachers, books, dry erase crayons, and the letter and number tracing kits assembled by Seneca.
