Recovery Center Opens Its Doors to the Community

South Jersey’s only peer-driven support center hosts an open house
Wednesday, September 11, 2013

CAMDEN-Center For Family Services’ (CFS) Living Proof Recovery Center welcomed local elected officials and members of the recovery community to an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony. The event highlighted the efforts of everyone involved in bringing the recovery center to Camden County, the only one of its kind in South Jersey.

“The people of South Jersey who are fighting addiction now have a new comprehensive Recovery Center to provide a wide range of vital services to help them in their journey to wellness,” comments Lynn Kovich, Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services within the New Jersey Department of Human Services.

“This expansion of services by the Center for Family Services will enhance connections to peers, employment and life skills training, healthcare, financial literacy programs, and many other supportive services that help build a foundation for sustained sobriety and successful community living,” continued Kovich.

CFS’ Living Proof Recovery Center is different from other treatment services because it is peer-led and volunteer-driven and allows members to choose their road to recovery that best meets their own personal preferences, needs, and values.  From employment to financial literacy to nutrition, the center helps individuals build a strong foundation that is the basis for long-term recovery.

“Addiction is a chronic condition that requires a continuum of supports and services to help individuals achieve sustained recovery,” says Richard Stagliano, President/CEO of Center For Family Services. “Recovery from addiction is possible, and the recovery center provides a place for people to find, maintain, and enhance their recovery.  We support members in all pathways to recovery.”

Arlene Maiuro, a Recovery Center member, also spoke to the crowd on her battle with addiction, “Living Proof Recovery Center is a safe place to spend time with others in recovery. The staff truly cares for you. When I was hungry they found me food. When I was homeless they found me shelter. They never gave up on me.”
