Operation Backpack Aims to Grow in 2011

Center For Family Services kicks off their annual back to school drive with a goal of 5000 backpacks
Monday, July 25, 2011
CAMDEN- It’s almost back to school time and Center For Family Services is kicking off their annual backpack drive with a goal nearly double that of last year.

Every year Center For Family Services (CFS), a human service non-profit based in Camden, hosts Operation Backpack to provide children in their more than 50 programs with the tools to start the school year. This year they have set a goal of collecting 5000 new backpacks filled with school supplies with the hopes of becoming a resource for the whole community, not just the clients they serve.

Operation Backpack is a community wide initiative that provides support to disadvantaged children and teens in southern New Jersey. CFS provides new backpacks filled with school supplies for youth ages 4-19 at the start of each school year. The goal of the drive is preparing children with the tools for educational success.

Many children in southern New Jersey are faced with starting a new school year already behind because disadvantaged families are unable to fill the yearly school supply list sent out by teachers.  “Operation Backpack is so important for the community because it levels the playing field for children who are facing an uphill battle from the start,” explains Richard Stagliano, President/ CEO of Center For Family Services.

Backpacks can be dropped off from now through August 18th at participating locations including the Adventure Aquarium, Campbell’s Field, local Old Navy stores, and over 30 Susquehanna bank locations.
