Anti-Hunger Advocates Mayor Francisco Moran, former Philly's Eagle Jason Avant, dairy farmer Melanie Richman, teacher and winner of Food Networks "Chopped" Timothy Witcher, Acting Superintendent of Camden School District Katrina McCombs, Nutrition program specialist Kimberly Gladis and CEO of Food Bank of South Jersey Joe Njoroge came together on July 26th, 2018 to promote the area's Free Summer Meals Program.

The leaders of Camden City put on an event that shed light on a problem many low-income areas may face. When school is let out for the summer, many students lose access to school breakfast and lunch putting them at risk for going hungry. Free summer meals help families stretch their food budgets, which can increase up to $300 per month when school is out. A Camden community center with help, provides nutritious meals and activities along with summer jobs for the teens during the season.

The event was held at North Camden's community center and included over 200 students, parents and residents that participated in activities. Camden leaders talked about the importance of this program especially for the students who are the future of our city. Avant provided signed footballs to kids, Witcher created a healthy and delcious snack to all participants. Other healthy food included fruit and vegatble smoothies, a parfait station, healthy lunch boxes and peach salsa and chips! The kids also got a chance to get physically active and pet a 3-day old calf. It was an amazing event promoting health and supporting the future leaders of Camden to succeed in all areas of their lives!
