A Second Chance

Scott’s life was put on hold the moment he became homeless. For two years he remained unemployed; living in motels and his car. He was unable to maintain a full time job because of his unstable living situation and he lost touch with his children because he didn’t have a safe place for them to call home.

Scott, a former veteran, was referred by Veterans Affairs to Center For Family Services First Call for Help hotline. The hotline provides homeless intervention and case management, emergency shelter placements, and emergency food assistance to Gloucester County residents.

First Call for Help staff successfully helped Scott receive permanent supportive housing and was able to provide him with a security deposit and first month’s rent for his new, fully furnished apartment. Since settling into his home, Scott has been able to secure a full time job and now has the money to pay his own rent and provide for his children.
