HomeBase is a structured transitional living program providing transitional living assistance for homeless youth ages 16-20 who are at imminent risk of losing their current placement or who are at risk of out of home placement, or adolescents lacking family resources and in need of transitional living services.
Eligible adolescents must be able to maintain themselves in the community and be reasonably expected to be capable of achieving independence.
The primary goal of the HomeBase program is the development of an independent living plan. Youth stay six to 18 months in a structured group home setting and/or up to one year in a supported apartment where they receive counseling, life and social skills training, employment, and education assistance. The HomeBase program is also a community based alternative for DYFS involved and homeless males ages 16-20 needing assistance to prepare for independent living due to a deficiency of family resources.
Referrals for HomeBase come from Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS).
