Family Preservation Services (FPS) is an intensive, in-home, four- to eight-week crisis intervention program for families referred by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P). The goal of Family Preservation Services is to prevent out-of-home placement and to promote stabilization and successful reunification. The program strives to keep families together through in-home counseling and support services. 

Counselors meet with families five days per week for up to eight weeks to educate and teach skills in:

  • parenting skills and techniques
  • conflict resolution
  • problem solving
  • budgeting
  • concrete needs
  • anger management
  • communication skills
  • household management skills
  • organizational skills
  • advocacy for families
  • access to community resources
  • behavior management and modification
  • time management

Additionally, counselors are on-call to provide support to families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

All services provided are based on the needs of the family with the goal of providing support to families in crisis, providing them with the tools to stay together. Services are offered to families residing in Camden, Gloucester, and Passaic Counties.
