School Success Bash Kicks Off a New School Year in Cooper Lanning Community
Families prepare for a new school year with a backpack giveaway, local resources, and more
Aug 18, 2011
CAMDEN-The Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood Team (CCLPNT) hosted a School Success Bash for Lanning Square Family School students and their families on August 25th from 4pm-7pm at the Broadway Campus. Families from the Cooper Lanning neighborhood whose children do not attend the school were also invited to participate in the event.
The School Success Bash served to inspire children in the Cooper Lanning neighborhood to look forward to an exciting and successful school year. Children were provided with new backpacks filled with school supplies and resources on furthering their education.
Along with backpack distribution provided by Center For Family Services’ Operation Backpack campaign, attendees enjoyed the Garden State Discovery “On the Go” Museum, Rowan University’s “Ask me where I am going to college” table, Cooper University Health screenings, American Reading Company information and giveaways, a visit from Mayor Redd, and the opportunity to meet and learn about different community service providers.
The Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood Initiative (CCLPNI) is focused on creating opportunities for children and families who live within Cooper Plaza and Lanning Square.
"We know education is a key to success and we are committed to providing children with the tools and resources to further their education with the goal of having every child in the Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood community get accepted into and graduate from college," says Richard Stagliano, President/CEO of Center For Family Services.
The School Success Bash is one of the many events helping to improve the quality of life of this targeted neighborhood. CCLPNI, based on the Harlem Children’s Zone block by block model, seeks to saturate the neighborhood with community, educational, and social supports with the ultimate end goal of sending every child to college. The goal is to reach children in every family in the neighborhood and provide services and educational programs to ensure their healthy development.
Center For Family Services is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve a better life through vision, hope, and strength. It is their vision that all people lead capable, responsible, fulfilled lives in strong families and healthy communities.
